I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN INTO EXTREME SPORTS. Through middle school and high school, I enjoyed skateboarding, surfing, and motocross. All this time, motocross was my true passion. Injury permitting, I would ride 7 days a week. Unfortunately I was injured a lot more often than I wanted to be, especially considering that the people at my day job did not share my passion for motocross. With each injury, I wanted more and more to find a new extreme sport that was a little more forgiving. Little did I know that my prayers would be answered!
After high school, I had the opportunity to move to Maui, Hawaii to live with family. One day while at a local surf spot, my cousin showed up with a trainer kite. With the wind blowing about 35 mph, I tried out the trainer kite, felt the power, and was instantly hooked. The very next day I went to Kite Beach to see Kiteboarding in action. At the time, you would never see more than 6 people on Kite Beach at one time. But even though kiting was still relatively unknown to most people, I immediately saw the potential. Within one week, my bikes were on the market and I was kiting at Kite Beach.
8 months later, I was ready to take what I had learned back home with me. It was the year 2000 and with the sport still in its infancy, the beaches were largely empty. But I was excited and ready to teach others what I had learned. I started out teaching my friends about kiting so I could at least have some company on the water! I was really amazed at the attention I would draw just flying the kite on the beach. People were constantly asking me what I was doing and how they could find out more about it.
Today, it is easy to spot kites up and down the coast. People of all ages and abilities are enjoying Kiteboarding and with my comprehensive training program, now you can too!
